Crossing Your Threshold
Hello,
Is it too late for a Happy New Year? How about a Happy Capricorn New Moon instead?
This New Moon is really so pivotal and supportive for our crossing into 2026 and it feels fitting to send this love letter now ~ almost at the end of Capricorn season ~ rather than put out a hyped-up intro for the New Year earlier. I wanted to live and feel my way through Capricorn quietly. For words to form and ideas to coalesce but also to exercise my imagination, allowing time and space for serious self-examination and interior life assessments. The kind you do when you’re on the precipice of something big and new but not quite sure what you’re about to jump into. So appropriate for Capricorn season and this one in particular.
Because if life isn’t already getting real, I’m sure you have a sense it will be soon.
We are poised on the threshold of so much change as a new energetic era finally takes hold. We got a taste of it last year but planets retrograded as we integrated and very soon it will be game on again. Clearly the cosmos believes we’re ready ~ or we need the shake-up⚡️ ~ as Saturn and Neptune find their place in Aries (fire) and Uranus blows back into Gemini (air). Then later in the year we’ll get set for Jupiter’s transition into Leo (more fire) while the nodes shift to straddle the Aquarius~Leo axis (fire and air!). Big, bold, courageous moves for the zodiac…and seismic personal and collective shifts for us.
Personally, I feel excited and invigorated for what’s to come. For a recovering perfectionist, these shifts will shake me up in ways that will be so good for me. But after years of feeling somewhat contained and rooted in earth and nourished by water, the transition of major planets to fast-moving fire and air elements will require an adjustment from all of us.
How this will unfold is impossible to predict but on a collective level this changing combined fire and air energy suggests things will happen quickly and perhaps heatedly, quite possibly on a grand scale. Individually, we can be sure we’ll feel the call to act and respond, whether out in the world or in our own lives, as we’re lit up and inspired in ways we’re yet to experience on such a level before. We’re also likely to feel braver and more motivated to secure ourselves in the driver’s seat of our lives, determined to be fully and firmly on our way.
It’s only natural we’re feeling the urge to centre and orient ourselves for the changes ahead.
Your Threshold Moments
I’m curious, how do you arrive at your unknowns? When you’re on the edge of the brand new, do you step through the door and go all in? Or do you resist and let caution be your guide?
Your own birth experience gives us clues about the way you transition. Your entry to the world was your very first threshold moment and the energy you were born into will be very telling about how you approach new life phases. I was born with Capricorn rising to greet me so with a Cap Ascendant, I know resistance and hard work well (and a Mum’s pelvis that couldn’t expand!). My boundaries will come up fast if I’m uncertain, even though I can put on a very good act. I also have great tenacity so if there’s something I strongly want to overcome, I’ll be there, fearlessly surpassing all barriers in my way.
If we were having a reading, I’d be looking at your Ascendant, and your Mars, your Moon, Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Pluto, your entire chart honestly. But I’d also ask you questions.
When you begin anything new, how do you feel your way forward? Do you go alone and rely on yourself, or do you reach out for support from friends or family? Do you get backup from endless research, feeling secured by knowledge? Perhaps information comes to you via dreams and divination, revealing your state of mind and offering stories to guide you. All of these ways are you engaging with the unknown. There’s no judgement. How you face what you’re yet to experience is just something to be aware of.
At the heart of all thresholds is choice. To fear change or embrace what’s on the other side.
As we enter 2026, the last thing we want is our final moves in earth and water to contribute to any fear about moving forward or weigh us down with our own inertia. Capricorn energy is a great stabiliser and can hold us while we get a read on our next steps, motivating us to actively engage with the creation and building of our year. And don’t forget on 17 February we have that activating Fire Horse energy coming in (even if we’re experiencing the final whips of the shedding Wood Snake’s tail). You might feel you have the thinnest skin right now but you can start some encouraging horse whispering.
You’ll get yourself off the ground when you need to. You won’t be left behind, I’m sure of it.
Embody Your Potential
I love this image. It caught my attention on Instagram and led me to the most inspiring feature on the incredibly chic and stylish writer, publisher and ex-archeologist Nathalie de Saint Phalle in the Financial Times, of all places. Based in Naples and living on top of her pinnacle above an 800-year-old feudal tower, this bronze 3000-year-old goat pendant is her talisman.
“I think I have the DNA of a goat. They do what they want, they eat what they want, they don’t obey. I am not a sheep, I am a goat.”
~ Nathalie de Sainte Phalle
I don’t know if she’s a Capricorn (I hear some Aquarius in there too) but she embodies its earthy sensibility so well. She is a woman unto herself, committed, purposeful, centred and her own authority. For me, this counts for everything. I want to be her when I grow up!
Capricorn’s symbol is the goat. The sea goat actually, possessing the mystery of a water creature and the practicality of a land animal. They have a mindset that can have their head up and down simultaneously. They see the mountaintop ahead but know they need to map their path carefully with the greatest intention ~ and precision ~ before they can get their land legs working.
This is our focus for the Capricorn New Moon, to envision our potential, set goals, practise our greatness, and appreciate that the best things take time, maturity and full-body presence to properly get going.
Your Capricorn New Moon
Oooh, this is a powerhouse of a New Moon, a brilliant star map designed for your best intentions, and for you to aim to be the very best you can be.
Coming in at 6.52am AEDT on 19 January, and 11.52am Pacific Time and 7.52pm GMT on 18 January, a stellar line-up of personal planets ~ Mars, Mercury and Venus ~ surrounds the Sun and Moon at 28º Capricorn, almost the final degree of this very well-intentioned sign. This year so far, wherever Capricorn lives in your natal chart, you’ve become extremely intimate with your allies, the guiding forces that shape your thoughts (Mercury), your self-worth and values (Venus), and your drive and will (Mars).
How will you be in 2026? And how will you shape your reality?
How will you prepare your interior self for greatness?
Great things can happen in years of change, sweeping change. Ridiculously tall structures can crumble making way for new, well-thought-out creations, planned and grown with dedication and integrity. If you haven’t spent time centring and securing your internal structure, you are well supported to start building yourself up now.
Capricorn’s ruler, Saturn, is in prime position to prepare you ~ it loves preparation. Be very real about what you want to dedicate yourself to and what you’re capable of going forward. Where is your energy best applied? And what is your biggest timesuck? Be honest. Neptune won’t drain you with unrealistic expectations and encourages you to thoughtfully connect with your why. Use its wisdom for reinforcement. Uranus in perfect resonance resources you with even more insight, giving you space and wiggle room where you feel stuck, inspiring you to reconfigure your perception of what’s possible.
We forget how enormously creative Capricorn is. A feminine energy, it mothers creations, doing everything in its power to hand-hold your visions and shepherd you, offering a generous leg up to secure your place on your path ~ and stay on it.
This isn’t the Moon to feel pressured, like you have to be on your way now. It’s a Moon to consider and reflect, to thoroughly ground yourself and find your footing. If you can calm your desire for control, the right path ~ for you ~ will reveal itself.
New Moons are our most intentional time of the month and a powerful time to connect with our emotional cycle. This New Moon is especially important because it offers a significant reset and sets the tone for the year. We can’t be great always, but we can come back and remind ourselves of our potential, any time.
On this foundational New Moon, will you take up the Capricorn spirit and be your own great guiding ally?
Love,
Kristin xxx
