Your Virgo New Moon
Hello,
We are as fresh as can be in Virgo season and already we have a New Moon. The first of two Virgo New Moons for this season. So very Virgo to want to get things right by doing it twice.
So very clever of the cosmos to recognise that Virgo is willing to do the emotional work, respecting repetition and understanding practice and dedication ~ daily devotion ~ helps to get it right.
The surprise Virgo lesson might be that in the feeling realm there’s really no right or wrong. There’s no perfection test or purity measure (one that we’d pass anyway), or award for feeling best. What is correct is what feels right for us.
This New Moon at the absolute beginning of Virgo ~ the 0º mark ~ embodies starter, baby Virgo energy. It’s young and untamed, ripe, fertile, pure and untainted. Ready to receive and learn, like an open book.
You, too, might be feeling like an open book.
We’re on the threshold of eclipse season. The season for increased illumination and insight. Already I’m sure events in your life have arisen drawing your attention to areas that could do with further feeling, lifting the lid off your emotional awareness. Sore points may have felt exposed, vulnerable places you clocked that need tending but stored away for later. That’s okay, you’re perfectly on point. Your heart wasn’t in it. Or up to it. You needed time to process.
Perhaps you thought a feeling wasn’t warranted, your reaction too extreme. You might have berated yourself for your behaviour, thought you should do better, be better. Pull yourself together.
Alter Your Perception
We’re so hard on ourselves. Thankfully, this New Moon is all about altering that perception. It’s preparing us to loosen the idea we’re wrong, at fault, not good enough or not enough. Virgo will forever feel itself falling short of an ideal or an expectation. Replaying and rewriting how it could have been ~ should have been at the very least. Holding standards above and beyond what any regular person could hope to achieve.
You know I’m talking from experience with all of my Virgo planets but you have Virgo in you too. The part that ego checks and overthinks, getting so granular that you miss the fine point to just be your good self doing good things. Instead we’re our harshest critic, improving and overdoing, analysing and paralysing and second-guessing ourselves into self-defeat. This thinking ~ certified mindf*ckery ~ does us such a disservice, detracting from the quality we create and distracting us from the potential we’re capable of.
Mind-centred Mercury is the co-creator of Virgo’s consciousness, giving it the gift to discriminate, to discern what’s right and wrong, pick out the pieces worth preserving and working on, refining and alchemising into something truly useful and valuable. We can use that consciousness wisely. So rather than hyperfocus on our personal deficiencies, how about we shift that perspective and hone in on the great?
What is so great about you?
If you asked five people this question, what do you think they’d say? Which excellent, redeemable qualities would they reflect back to you? How would they talk you up? If that sounds too much, what do you think they wouldn’t say? I very much doubt it would be what keeps you up at night, the things you cringe over and criticise yourself for.
What are you not getting about yourself? What essential greatness in you is so hard to perceive?
Fill Your Self-Loving Cup
To be clear, this New Moon is not an eclipse but an opening. You could call it eclipse prep, readying us for an emotional reset. We’re going back to ground zero and recalibrating, emptying out and beginning again. Finding our base and slowly, carefully, tending to ourselves and refilling our cup, starting from scratch.
Imagine you’re pouring yourself in, mindfully filling your cup with all that’s great about you. Your essential properties, your primo qualities. The essence you value and love most. We’re not seeking perfection, that’s too much, but we can be selective, cherry picking our critical best with what will serve us ~ grow us ~ and discriminating against the rest.
Keep your mind’s eye on this as we move through Virgo season and the eclipses we’ll be feeling. Add to your cup incrementally, making sure to top up when you need to and subtract what doesn’t suit you. Taking care to get the taste just right and perfect for you.
Living in Devotion
This New Moon is so well designed, so many planets in alignment at their earliest, first degrees, all ripe with unknown potential, offering their particular potent, transforming qualities. The coolest shape is the yod ~ aka the finger of god ~ pointing in our direction. Involving regenerative Pluto, supportive and structured Saturn and dreamy, idealistic Neptune, we’re being both challenged to change and touched with promise.
Do we let this energy sit there or do we set it off?
We set it off! Uranus is there too, fizzing and buzzing, lighting you up like a rocket. We can employ all of this brilliant energy and create meaningful change in our lives, starting with how we set ourselves up.
‘What is the smallest thing you want to do right now that you could happily do every day of your life?’ I read this line in Ankita Shah’s newsletter ‘Notes on Routine’ in her Substack Life, Annotated. She finds it easier to consider this rather than the overwhelming ‘Where do you see yourself in 10 years?’ line of thinking. It resonates so much for me too because we don’t have to make so many adjustments on the micro level and embed ourselves in practices we feel beholden to ~ and bad if we don’t do ~ to actually move the needle.
Bravely committing to one small act of self-service every day, devoted to an area of your life that needs attention, is the sustainable seed you can plant for your Virgo New Moon. Just one wholesome and holistic step towards self-improvement ~ that’s life, love, work, anything related ~ can be a leap towards the future version of yourself you’re on the path to becoming.
This is living in devotion. Living with one act that intentionally, lovingly, shows you are committed to your growth and you care about yourself.
I can’t resist leaving you with the dream I had the night before I started writing this love letter. It’s a beautiful, symbolic reminder of what’s possible when we engage in the smallest acts of care.
In my dream I wake up in a panic because I have a client coming for an astrology reading in an hour. I need to centre myself and get clean, and I know being in water will help prepare me. No time to take off my clothes, I jump into a claw-foot bath that’s surrounded by flowers in an open field. Sitting sideways with my feet on the edge of the bath, I start peeling off my layers. I see my feet are covered in broken eucalyptus leaves. As I brush the leaves off my feet and wash them I notice some leaves are wedged into the skin beside my left big toenail. I try to remove the leaves but they keep reappearing. Using a small stick I ease them out and see a white cocoon embedded into my skin. Afraid a spider will hatch, I try to prise the cocoon away but a ladybird emerges, hatching tiny ladybird babies. I’m entranced but I know she’s not safe here so I try to gently free her from my foot and in the process accidently break off part of her wings. I’m so upset I’ve hurt her, but she takes a deep breath. As she exhales, her body rises and a new shell appears made of iridescent mother of pearl. She has transformed into a sacred scarab beetle. As she appears in this new form another scarab beetle arrives to join her.
Enjoy your powerful Virgo New Moon and keep sipping from your self-love cup. Who knows the dreams you’ll have?
I’d love to hear how you go and will check back in on the Pisces Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse in two weeks and at the close of Virgo season for the Virgo New Moon and Solar Eclipse.
Love,
Kristin xxx
